Trip to England

On 30th June 2013 it finally happened what the pupils of grade eight had been waiting for thoughout the whole school year: our trip to England started. With our teachers Mrs Bicknäse, Mrs Bührer, Mrs Pfleger, Mrs Seigel and Mrs Zipp we took off and headed for Worthing. The journey was a long one but finally after hours in the coaches and on the ferry, we were welcomed to Dover by wonderful weather, which is not typical of England.

Having arrived in Worthing our host families picked us up at the coach station. The anticipation was tremendous. What did our accommodation look like and what were our host parents like? These were the topics we thoroughly discussed the next morning. We shared our first impressions and experiences and had a lot to laugh about even if some of the lunch packets caused little excitement.

Our first day in England began with a town rallye in Wothing, before we visited the Royal Pavilion in Brighton. The day ended with the opportunity to go shopping in Brighton. Of course we couldn’t visit England without seeing its capital London, where many adventures waited for us. Taking the tube with 85 pupils, without anyone getting lost in the hustle and bustle of a huge city, was a challenge. We saw many things, beginning with the Royal Observatory in Greenwich and a boat trip on the Thames and followed by the Buckingham Palace, the Natural History Museum and the London Dungeon. Neither the small town Chichester, nor Arundel Castle were spared by us.

The days in England flew by and much too soon the week was over. Our last day took us to Hastings, where we saw a Smuggler’s Cave and an Aquarium. Afterwards we had the chance to get rid of our last pounds and had time to go shopping. When we arrived in Oberkirch after a long night travelling back, we were tired but happy. Our trip was full of events and really great and we will remember it for a long time.
